Operational Integration Management

DESY wants you to feel well and in good health, motivated to perform your work tasks. In case you are ill for a long time or suffer from chronic diseases, or in case of impending illness, you may get help to find out whether DESY will support you in prevention and recovery. The Operational Integration Management (OIM) at DESY is based on §167 section 2 of the German code of social law (SGB IX) and the central works council agreement OIM from April 10th, 2017.

1. Entitlement

You are entitled to get operational integration when you have been absent from work due to illness for more than six weeks (30 workdays) in the past 12 months. This includes sick notes with or withour medical sick certificates. If you work part-time, your absence is calculated in a similar manner as your holiday entitlement.

2. Getting in touch

We will get in touch with you in written form and make an operational integration offer. The first step is an invitation to a non-committal personal briefing. At this stage, you will possibly get information on whether integration makes sense for you.

Please note: In case of no response to our integration offer, we will remind you after four weeks. In case you do not eact within the following three weeks, OIM is considered as cancelled.

3. Personal briefing

In case you accept to attend the personal briefing, you will have the opportunity to clarify all open questions in a  non-committal way, such as: What can I expect from an OIM? What do I have to disclose? Who will get this information?

After the briefing you will have enough time to carefully consider whether this programme fits your needs.

If you wish, the two works council representatives of the integration team and other confidential persons may take part in the personal briefing.

4. First interview

The first interview helps to understand your current situation and to clarify, to what extent your illness handicaps you in your work and which kind of tasks you have to manage at present. In this case, you may have to agree to exchange your data with the group of people defined by you.

5. Finding measures

In accordance with you, we develop proposals on how to facilitate your work. Perhaps it will be necessary to call in the HR department. In cooperation with your supervisor, it will be discussed whether the proposals can be put into practice. In case of agreement, you and your supervisor sign a plan of measures.

Your participation in an operational integration is voluntary and may be cancelled by you at any time. The refusal to take part in an operational integration management procedure will not be used to your detriment. However it may impede to take legal action against a dismissal due to illness.

6. Implementation

We will initiate the agreed measures and will contact you after a while to get your opinion on whether the procedure was successful or not. If not, you may go one step back again and it will then be verified why the measures proved inadequate and if it is necessary to agree on other procedures.

The following items will be included in your personal file:

- written offer

- cancellation or refusal of integration

- completion of the OIM procedure
